In October 2008, Mario Orsini made the Head Men’s Basketball Coach of Marshall University appear “out of thin air” at half court of the Henderson Center. Little did any of the 2,000+ fans in attendance that night know, it was the first time Mario had ever performed a large illusion or performed in front of more than a few dozen people. Little did Mario know, he would be on state-wide television less than a year later as a featured performer at the 2009 Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant.
Mario was born in Winchester, Virginia and grew up in Bunker Hill, West Virginia. A fan of David Copperfield as a child, Mario traded a skateboard to his cousin for a magic kit, which he used the props from to put on countless shows in his parents’ living room for friends and family. Once he started playing sports in high school, magic soon faded to the background. After graduating from Musselman High School, Mario attended Marshall University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of West Virginia University with a M.A. in Communications. It was a trip to Atlantic City that once again sparked his love for magic. Mario came across a magic shop at the Tropicana Hotel. He spent over an hour speaking the magician behind the counter before buying a few tricks. The rest, as they say, is history.
Since that night at the Henderson Center, Mario has performed his magic on dozens of television stations including national television. He’s performed at casinos like the Greenbrier Resort and Hollywood Casinos. He’s headlined at sold-out theatres, made 5-straight appearances at the Miss West Virginia Pageant (including hosting and performing in 2013), and opened for America’s Got Talent winner Landau Murphy Jr. Mario has also been a main stage performer at many fairs and festivals including the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival and the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. However, well over half of Mario’s performances each year are not open to the general public as he keeps a very busy performing at corporate events throughout the United States.
